Have you ever wondered what the word Apothecary means?
As part of our name, Farrah Apothecary, it is a word that carries both history and meaning. Its roots can be traced back to the Ancient Greek word apothēkē, meaning "to keep in reserve" or "to store away."
Historically, apothecaries were places people would visit when feeling slightly unwell, where herbs and botanical remedies were thoughtfully prepared to support wellbeing. Plants were not simply decorative. They were woven into everyday life, offering comfort, care, and connection to nature.
This philosophy is one of the reasons we chose the word Apothecary as part of our name.
At Farrah Apothecary, we create products inspired by the gifts of nature, carefully selecting botanical ingredients that are gentle on the skin. Our skincare formulations are made without parabens, ethanol, mineral oils, synthetic fragrances, or artificial colorants.
For fragrance, we use only essential oils.
At the heart of our collection is the scent of rose geranium, a fragrance that balances floral brightness with gentle warmth. It is a scent that invites a deeper breath and a quieter moment amidst the pace of everyday life.
Today, we may no longer visit an apothecary as people once did.
Yet the rituals remain.
The moment we reach for a favourite skincare product. The pause we take to enjoy the scent of botanicals. These small acts of care continue to shape our daily lives, offering moments to slow down and reconnect with ourselves.
Through the gifts of nature, Farrah Apothecary hopes to bring a sense of comfort and wellbeing to these everyday rituals.
This article marks the beginning of our new Farrah A-Z Series, where we'll explore the words, stories, botanicals, fragrances, and craftsmanship that inspire our brand.
And naturally, we begin with the letter A.
A for Apothecary.
